Early Life

Raised on a sheep farm outside Cooma, in the Snowy Mountains of NSW, Dr Keighley saw orthopaedic surgery as a vocation that combined his love of building, fixing and creating with his desire to help improve the lives of those around him. After three days of work experience in high school with an orthopaedic surgeon, he never looked back.

Training

Dr Keighley attended the University of NSW as an undergraduate medical student, and spent three years of medical school in Port Macquarie. After his formative medical years in Sydney, he undertook a rotation through The Tweed Hospital as part of his Orthopaedic Training and fell in love with the Northern Rivers and Southern Gold Coast.

He completed his training and a Fellowship in Hip and Knee Surgery, with a focus on robotic surgery, in Canberra with well respected surgeons Dr Damian Smith, Dr Tom Ward and Dr Michael Gross. He then stayed on to work as a Locum Surgeon in The Canberra Hospital, the major trauma referral centre for the ACT and Southern NSW. In addition to this he has a Masters of Traumatology through the University of Newcastle and a number of additional skills courses that can be found on his curriculum vitae.

Working together

In managing your condition, Dr Keighley will take the time to explain the condition, the investigations required and your management options, which may include referral to other providers including physiotherapy, interventional radiology, other medical practitioners and as a last resort, surgery.
